4 Things To See And Do At Zoo Knoxville

May 2, 2018

Giraffe at Zoo KnoxvilleTennessee is home to many great attractions and destinations, and Knoxville is one of them. Initially, the first capital of the state, the city is the third largest after Nashville and Memphis and stands as a popular vacation spot among tourists. If you’ll be spending time in the city, you’ll want to check out Zoo Knoxville. It’s one of the many premiere zoological experiences in the Southeast and focuses on offering a fun experience for all ages. Of course, there’s plenty to see and do, so here are four things you definitely shouldn’t skip during your visit.

The Williams Family Giraffe Encounter

Ever want to get up close and personal with some of the tallest creatures in the world? You’ll want to check out the Williams Family Giraffe Encounter. Standing two stories high, you’ll be able to reach out and pet the giraffes as they approach for feeding time. You’ll be handed some food to give them and experience something you’ll never forget. Admission is also very affordable at just $5 per feeder. It’s open daily at Zoo Knoxville, but do note operating hours are weather dependent.

Zoo Camp

For those of you bringing your little ones to the zoo, Zoo Camp is an excellent way to get them to engage with what the attraction has to offer. Throughout the day, your children will enjoy activities like animal interactions, games, crafts, and more while also learning what it’s like working behind-the-scenes. You’ll need to register for your little one’s day camp at the zoo in advance, but we can promise it’ll be totally worth it.

Night Safaris

If you’ve been to a zoo, you’re probably familiar with what to expect: a bunch of animals, concession stands, and people taking pictures all while in the bright summer sun. But what happens when the sun goes down? For those who are curious or want to experience something completely different, Night Safaris are the way to go. You’ll go on an after-hours tour of Zoo Knoxville and experience what happens when it’s dark out. There’s plenty of hands-on activities and things to see during the hours of 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Family, adult, and scout programs are available.

Zoo Choo Train

Whoever said you had to walk to discover what Zoo Knoxville offers? Serving as entirely kid-friendly, the Zoo Choo Train will take you around the zoo’s koi pond where you’ll find brightly-colored and unique fish you otherwise wouldn’t see on a daily basis. Rides cost just $3 per person, and the train operates every day depending on the weather. It’s the perfect way to take a breather from walking around the vastness of the park, while also discovering something new.

There’s so much to see and do at Zoo Knoxville that we simply don’t have enough time to cover it all. You’ll have an absolute blast during your visit discovering animals and creatures that can’t be spotted in your backyard. And if you choose to check out any of the attractions mentioned above, your time at the park will only be more special and memorable than you may have anticipated.
