Why the Kia Brand is Known for Safety

Oct 25, 2018

Kia is the brand that’s known for safety, and they have many reasons to back that up. Kia’s cars are made from strong tensile steel to keep everyone in the vehicle safe in case of an accident, and many models have a high safety rating. A suite of optional safety features offered with most cars can help make driving even safer than before.

Strong Body

Kia builds cars to last as well as to keep you protected. All vehicle bodies are made from ultra-high tensile steel and take up around 30 percent of the total weight of the vehicle. This plays a crucial role in how it protects you in case you’re involved in an accident. Kia bodies are made from the hot stamping method, which improves their rigidity while allowing them to be lighter. This means the crash safety rating significantly improves, which gives more buyers confidence in the brand.

Protection From Crashes

Every Kia vehicle has a full set of airbags, which includes driver knee airbag, front and rear side airbags, driver and passenger seat airbags, and curtain airbags. This means anyone you drive with will be protected at all times and from all sides. There are also seatbelt pre-tensioners that tightly hold passengers against their seat right before and at the beginning of an accident. It then lets them contact the inflated airbag in a way that’s controlled.

High Safety Ratings

In addition to plenty of safety features, Kia’s cars also are rated highly. For example, U.S. News gave the 2019 Kia Sorento a rating of 9.9 out of 10, which is hard to beat. This is no surprise, as the Sorento has some unique features, including a lower stiffener and lower leg form that reduce the bending of a person’s knee in case the vehicle comes in contact with them. The purpose of this is so they fall onto the car, this will lower the chances of them going under the car.

Advanced Technology

Most of the new models have a variety of advanced safety features, such as lane-departure warning, which is a camera on your windshield that detects if your car starts to drift from its lane and alerts you to command control over it again. There’s also a forward-collision warning, where a camera will detect if you’re too close to a car in front of you and alert you so that you can prevent a possible collision.

A tire-pressure monitoring system keeps track of the air pressure found inside your tires and tells you if any of them are under-inflated. This lets you know it’s time to fill them up so you can stay safe on the road.
