Exterior
The four-door Optima sedan is available in a choice of several trims, which include the base LX, the S followed by the EX, and finally the top-choice in the SX trim. Depending on your choice, the Optima has a few new exterior features such as upgraded projection LED front fog lights and running lights; 16-, 17-, and 18-inch wheels; reshaped headlamps; solar control glass for doors, backlight, windshield, and back window; a distinctive black grille; LED taillights; heated and adjustable outside mirrors; and a sunroof.
Interior
Comfort is key, and drivers will appreciate a heated steering wheel while enjoying upcoming winter outings. A push-button start and a proximity key make it easy to get up and go. A spacious cabin provides ample room for five, and for in-town shopping or out of town travel, the Optima's trunk provides 15.9 cubic feet for groceries or luggage. The stylish interior features quality materials with the SX touting leather seats. Driver convenience is a focus and the Optima offers a choice of driving modes, which include Smart, Sport, Eco, and Comfort. Each mode serves a purpose. Smart mode, for example, emulates your driving style. The SX and EX trims feature adaptive cruise control for stress-free driving, while the EX features Smart Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go. A standard feature for all trims is the tilt and telescopic steering column. Infotainment gets a thumbs up with the installation of UVO software that operates the selections on an 8-inch touchscreen. The system has three levels: UVO Link with Navigation, UVO Play, and UVO Link. This software is available on select models. A 3.5-inch or 4.3-inch LCD display panel, which include a trip computer, is also an option. Several available infotainment features include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, iPod compatibility, standard radio, satellite radio, and a superior voice recognition system.
Engine
The EX features a 1.6-Liter turbocharged Inline-4 engine coupled with a dual-clutch 7-speed automatic transmission. The LX and S feature a naturally aspirated 2.4-Liter Inline-4 engine coupled with a 6-speed automatic transmission. The SX features a 2.0-Liter turbocharged Inline-4, which is also fitted with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
Performance for the Optima is competitive with trims ranging from 185 horsepower to 245 horsepower for plenty of get-up-and-go when it's needed. The Optima features tight suspension, which enhances better control and maneuverability. Each trim has a variable intake system and a front-wheel drive (FWD) drivetrain. Fuel economy for the 2020 Optima is competitive. The estimated miles per gallon (mpg) is 27 in the city and 37 on the highway. This equates to a combined mpg of 31 city/highway, and 3.2 gallons per 100 miles.
Safety
All trims are equipped with an array of safety features and driver assistance systems, such as rear cross-traffic alert, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring that includes lane-change assist, and a forward collision warning system. A bonus is the warning system that alerts drivers to take a break and rest.
